Should
I be concerned with my Chimney?
There are many reasons to be concerned
about your chimney... First and
foremost is the possibility of a flue
fire. A flue fire is a very intense and
extremely dangerous fire that will often
produce temperatures that exceed 2,000
degrees. Your chimney is not designed
for these high temperatures.
Unfortunately,
many chimneys are being installed or
constructed by people with little or no
knowledge about NFPA standards. The
NFPA (National Fire Protection
Association) Code 211 states that all
wood burning appliances, and their
chimneys be inspected annually and
cleaned if needed.
Friends, your fireplace or woodstove can
give you countless hours of family
enjoyment and entertainment, and is
often the centerpiece to a home. Not to
mention a great source of heat. But if
not used and maintained properly, it can
be the most dangerous part of your home.
